Overview

Acolytes are thoughtful protectors and healers of all that is good in Rune Midgarts. Though they are still new to holy magic, their Heal, Blessing, and Increase Agi skills are vital to turn the tide of the battle. Growing up in the Capital City, Prontera, they learned how their skills can protect fellow adventurers from evil.

Acolytes are not able to equip bladed weapons but their dedication to all that is good allows them to fully support others in all situations. They can be solid tanks given the right attribute and armor.

2a. Mother Marthilda in Morroc: Use the Kafra teleport service to go to Morroc, and go out the exit to the north. You will then be on Sograt Desert 07. The NPC is located in the northwestern corner of the map (moc_fild07 41, 355).

2b. Father Yosuke in East Geffen: Use the Kafra teleport service to warp to Geffen and walk 2 maps to the East to locate the NPC on Prontera Field 00. Leveling Guide

To make sure your acolyte becomes fully functional, you’ve got to plan your build according to the 2nd class you’ll graduate. Acolyte classes have these most common builds to evolve into:

Full Support (FS) Priest

The most common build for a priest: healing, buffing and helping your team is your main priority.

  • Pros: demanded in parties, very in demand for duos (farming in high end places, MVPing…)
  • Cons: solo play is very limited and not very efficient

Recommended if you play with friends, not recommended if you don’t like playing with other people.

Leveling as an acolyte aiming to be a full support priest :

First, refer to the universal tips for early leveling of characters.

  • 10-15 : Training Grounds / Spores

Try to remain a bit longer at Training Grounds, until you reach base 15 for free stat reset, by killing monsters in the hardest zone (Spores, Rockers, Thief Bugs). If you got out of the training grounds but are still boasting a melee build, you can also kill Spores one south of Payon. Then, either you remain STR/AGI/DEX build until your base 45 (see above), or you go full support from the get-go. If so, prepare to take a lot of time sitting to accelerate your SP recovery (use /sit or the “Inser” key on Windows). Kill some low level monsters first to get an acceptable level of Heal.

  • 15-30 : Payon Cave F1

This old classic is the go-to destination for FS Acolytes. Use the command /noshift, so you can use Heal on Undead monsters to hurt them. Skeleton (non-aggressive) and Zombie (aggressive) are your prime targets. Familiars aren’t undead but they’re aggressive, so you’ll have to fight them with a weapon. Zombies and Poporings (non-undead, non-aggressive, looters) are the main source of experience. Ribbons from Familiar, Skull Ring from Skeleton and Opal from Zombies are good zeny makers. Skill wise, aim for Heal lvl 5 if you're in party, 10 if you're solo.

Most importantly : Payon Cave is usually where most newbies start. It’s an ideal opportunity to talk to other people and make a party with them : they’ll appreciate your buffs and you’ll get much more experience. If you’re with other people at this stage of the game, raise Blessing then Increase agility levels. Else, aim for Pneuma.

  • 30-40 : Payon Cave F2

The step-up in difficulty is rather high. You’re faced with aggressive Soldier Skeletons and Archer Skeletons. Fortunately, if you have Pneuma, the latters won’t do damages to you as they only attack with ranged attacks. Both these monsters have a lot of HP for the exp they give, and only their rares are valuable (Soldier Skeleton Card, Apple of Archer)

  • 35-55 : Amatsu Dungeon F1

You’ve got to conplete a quest to access to Amatsu Dungeon. The hardest part is to reach a shrine usually guarded by Hydras and Kapha, which can easily kill you. Bring some fly wing and pray for a lucky teleport, or ask for help.

The first floor is full of Firelock Soldiers, undead-type monsters that attack with a rifle : Pneuma makes you impervious to their attacks. Focus exclusively on them and feast on their drop : they drop Iron at a very high rate (it can be sold to players for 500z to 950z each), Large Jellopy sells very well to NPCs, and if you’re lucky, Apple of Archer will be your next headgear. Their card also sells for a good amount to players.

  • 55+ : Glast Heim

This dangerous place has some levels filled with Undead, such as the Church (Evil Druid, Wraith) and the Prison (Zombie Prisoner). However, they have a lot of HP, they hit hard and the place is generally dangerous. The loots are good, especially the rares, but that should definitely be a last resort for leveling : your main focus should be to find parties !

Skills attribution (in no particular order):

  • Heal 10
  • Divine Protection 5
  • Blessing 10
  • Increase Agility 10
  • Pneuma
  • Aqua Benedicta 1
  • Angelus 2
  • Cure 1
  • 2 skill points left that you can put in Decrease Agi 1 or Angelus 3.

Some builds cut into some skills (Decrease Agi, Cure, levels of Heal...) to get access to Signum Crucis to act as a tapper in static parties.

Try to get Holy Light as soon as possible (you can get it from job 15 on Payon Stories), it saves SP and allows you to hit all kind of monsters with a magic attack. You’ll need a Rosary (sold at Prontera church), an Opal (drop from Zombie at Payon cave) and a Crystal Blue (drop from Black Mushroom)

Stat distribution:

First, raise INT until you get around 50 for decent healing power and better sp regeneration. Remember that every 6 points of INT (bonus included) give you additional SP recovery (take Blessing bonus into account). Then, raise DEX (for cast time) and most importantly VIT (for tanking).

Gears to aim for:

Get a Rod (NPC or loots from Drops). Stuff yourself with NPC gears for maximum defense. A Pupa card in a Silk Robe or Saint’s Robe greatly helps with survivability and is easy to farm, although it’s recommended to farm with another class. Try to get an Arc Wand either from the NPC or by asking players farming Bathories, it’ll give you more INT and boost your MATK.

Agi Combo Monk

The beginner-friendly version of Monk, suited to farm monsters while still having the capacity to buff and heal yourself

  • Pros : Easy to build as a first character, good for farming
  • Cons : Limited use in teams, single-target only

Leveling as an acolyte aiming to be an agi combo Monk :

The route is essentially the same as the one for every melee classes. In the later levels, you'll have to max the passive "Divine Protection" and "Demon Bane", which makes places filled with Demons and Undeads more interesting to look after.

Skills attribution (order matters) :

  • Heal 3
  • Increase Agility 10
  • Divine Protection 3
  • Blessing 10
  • Heal 9
  • Divine Protection 5
  • Demon Bane 10
  • Divine Protection 10

Your priority should go to buffs. Heal is raised for you'll use Enchanted Peach Tree Card in a shield as a monk ; you can also use the 6 skill points for Warp portal to 3. Divine Protection and Demon Bane are maxxed as they're needed to access to all of Monk skill tree.

Stat distribution :

Aim for ~30 DEX, then go for AGI and STR (about 40 each at level 45). Later on, pump the AGI until 60~70 then focus on STR and some INT.

Gears to aim for:

Your top priority should be to acquire the Pantie + Undershirt combo, then a Stunner (sold at Morroc southwest, ask a merchant for a discounted price). In your later levels, you might farm Sohees : their card is a welcome help.

Magnus Exorcismus Priest

Magnus Exorcismus (ME) is an aoe that deals massive damage to Undead & Demon races. In Payon Stories, it does even better : it deals holy property damages to every type of monsters, although the damages are halved against other races, making Priest able to farm the most highly sought maps such as Chivalry.

  • Pros : Farming solo becomes possible as a priest and very efficiently in specific areas
  • Cons : Difficult to level as an acolyte, rough for beginners as it’s demanding on gears and gemstones

Leveling as an acolyte aiming to be a ME Priest :

Refer to the leveling guide for Full support builds

Skills attribution : Idem

Stats attribution:

Aim first for INT like Full support builds, then boost your DEX for the casting time of ME. Later on, you might add a bit of VIT for tankability.

Gears to aim for :

As an acolyte, aim for the same gears as a full support build. If you were lucky to drop a rare that you sold, get your sight on a Phen card or Phen clip.
