Overview
Rhythm and balance are qualities cultivated by all Archers, however, only the truly talented are allowed to learn the secret steps of the Dancers. These scantily clad seductresses gain the power to influence the minds of allies and enemies alike.
It is said that time slows down when a Dancer starts to move her hips to the sound of some mysterious tune; that those watching may lose control of their bodies and find their magic reserves either greatly improved or gone altogether. Where their male counterparts, the Bards, are more bent on support, Dancers specialize at disruptive maneuvers, which make them an invaluable asset in the War of Emperium.
Supporting with a Bard or Dancer requires a different approach than other classes. Music-based buffs are mostly percentual values, as opposed to the absolute values of Priest buffs, and require careful strategy and positioning, but playing as an Archer should already provide some experience in this respect. Despite their supportive role, one should not forget that Dancers are also capable of dealing good quantities of damage, one of their main advantages over Huntresses is their immense SP pool which allows them to continually use Double Strafe instead of normal attacks, ensuring decent damage output.
To understand how to build a Bard or Dancer, knowledge of all their skills is needed. Dancer and Bard skills are, in comparison to other classes, very stat dependent. In general, there are 2 types of skills for both a Dancer and a Bard; skills which can be sung or danced without a partner of the opposite gender and those where the player needs another Bard or Dancer respectively.
As a Dancer, only whips, daggers and bows are available for weapons, whereas Bards can use instruments instead of whips.
- When armed with a Whip:
- Bow skills (Double Strafe, Arrow Shower, Arrow Repel) cannot be used
- Performance Skills, as well as Amp and Encore are available
- Whip skills (Slinging Arrow, Arrow Vulcan) can be used
- Whip damage depends on the Dancer's dex, NOT str. Just like it does for bows

1. Head to Comodo. Near the Kafra employee, there will be a male NPC named Bor Robin (comodo 193, 151) who will grant entrance into the Dancer Quest area.
2. Upon heading inside, talk to Aile (job_duncer 43, 93) to the left side of the stage. She will ask the player to bring one of the following set of items:
Set | Items |
---|---|
Set 1 | 1 Sandals, 10 Black Hair, 20 Jellopy, 5 Yellow Potion, 2 Clam Shell, 10,000 zeny |
Set 2 | 1 Shoes, 20 Sticky Mucus, 3 Jellopy, 5 Red Potion, 10,000 zeny |
Set 3 | 1 Boots, 5 Earthworm Peeling, 10,000 zeny |
Note: The NPC will NOT actually take these items.
3. Once finished signing up, it's time to head to the right side of the stage and talk to Bijou (job_duncer 95, 93) to take the quiz.
4. The quiz involves a simple Q & A session. Getting 80% correct is required to pass this part of the exam. For reference, the following are the questions that are asked for this section of the exam. (The wording however, may differ)
Question Set A | Answer Set A |
---|---|
What is the effect of the skill Dance Lesson? | Increases the effect of dancing skills. -or- Increase damage of Whip weapons. |
What dance uses shoes that are designed to make sound as the dancer rolls their feet and taps the ground to create a rhythm? | Tap Dance |
Which of the following is not a characteristic of a Dancer? | Uses Two-handed Swords |
Which town has the most Dancers? | Comodo |
Of the following, who dances most beautifully? | Bijou |
What is the Dancer better at than the other job classes? | Dancing |
Who is the manager of the Comodo Casino? | Moo |
What item cannot be equipped by a Dancer? | Two-handed Sword |

Question Set B | Answer Set B |
What is the effect of 'Classical Pluck/Loki's Veil'? | Makes skills and magic unusable |
After you have finished using an Ensemble skill with a partner what should you never do? | You tell the partner they did an insufficient job |
Which is not an appropriate response when someone makes a mistake while you are dancing together? | Point out the mistake |

What is my name? | Bijou |
What is the effect of Lullaby? | Casts the Sleep effect on the area |
5. After passing the quiz, Bijou will send the player to Dance on the stage. At this point one should make sure to equip a Bow and some arrows and then head behind the stage to meet another NPC with a "Waiting Room" chat window above her head. Entering the chatroom will put the player on queue for the trial.
6. The exam is a simple test of movement and quick responses. Hotkeying Arrow Shower or Double Strafe and Improve Concentration is suggested.
- Note: there's a poring at the end that has to be killed with a bow. Using Improve Concentration is optional, even though the NPC will ask for it.
The Dancing pattern is as follows.
- Up
- Down
- Left
- Right
- Center
- Hold (just remain on the center tile)
- Improve Concentration
- Left
- Down (Skip this step and go right directly)
- Right
- Hold (just remain on the right tile)
- Left, Center, Right, Up
- Right
- Left, Center, Down, Up
- Left, Center, Down, Up
- Down
- Left
- Center
- Arrow Shower or Double Strafe
For those future dancers who are having problems with this part of the test: An effective way to pass this exam is to only perform the first and last steps for sequences with more than two steps, rather than hitting all the tiles. For example: instead of doing "Left Center Right Up" one simply goes from Left to Up.
7. Return to the NPC who gave the quiz for the job change to Dancer. She will reward you with either a Whip for Job 50, or a Rope for any job level lower than 50.
